The TeachWithTechUMass wiki needs more people to get involved in monitoring pages. This need not be a demanding role, but it is an important one for making sure the wiki is up-to-date and reasonably accurate.
The responsibilities of a “page monitor”
If your page is new or empty, edit it to provide basic coverage of the topic and links to resources. Please visit your page(s) periodically (at least once a month) to make sure they are up-to-date. If there have been any discussions in the “comments” section, you may also want to add material from those discussions to the page. It would also be helpful if you check your pages regularly for comments and participate in any discussion. Finally, in the tag box at the bottom of the page (in edit mode) or the "Edit Tags" window (in view mode), change the “status” tag to reflect the current condition of the page: “empty”, “needs attention”, or “ok". Also, please review the general “index” pages (the ones listed on the home page) to make sure that any references to your specific pages are accurate.
Volunteering to be a page monitor
If you see a page in an area of interest, and especially if it has no one listed as a page monitor, you can voluteer by entering your name in lower case as a tag in the "Edit Tags" window. You can find pages without tags by looking at the "unassigned" tag in the list that loads when you click here.
Locating pages on which you are designated as a “monitor”
Each page in the wiki will have a “Tag” that consists of the name of the person who will monitor that page. (See the “Edit Tags” section of the sidebar to see the tags for the page you are looking at). IThere are two ways to locate pages that are tagged with your name: (1) click here and find your name in the list of tags--your pages are listed next to your name; or (2) in the search box, type the word “tag” followed by a colon and add your name in lower case, enclosed in quotation marks, as in the following example: tag:”firstname lastname”.
Changing your “monitor” status
If you don’t want to monitor a page that has been tagged with your name, delete your name from the tag field. (Click on the “Edit” tab and you will see the tag field at the bottom of the page). If you were the only person listed there, replace your name with the tag “unassigned”.
As already noted, you are also welcome to add yourself as a monitor on additional pages. Look at the pages that are tagged "unassigned", or search on any terms (e.g., your department or a topic of special interest) and see which pages include relevant content. It is fine to have more than one person monitoring a page.
Thanks very much.
